Over the weekend of September 24th, two separate occasions involved trespassers entering and walking on the track. The damage to the track slowed down the process of completing the track and may have led to additional expenses for the district.
Over the summer, Irvington began construction on a turf field and a new track. Although the turf was installed before Fall sports began, the track fell behind schedule. In order to avoid damaging the track, access to the turf field was suspended until very recently.
All sports teams moved to the Dows Lane’s field. Sofia Garcia, sophomore, said, “We didn’t get affected much but our practices got moved to Upper Dows [Lane], and we were afraid we would even have to play at Sleepy Hollow for our homecoming.”
The gates were closed and locked with a sign saying “Field and Track Are Closed.” Additional signs were located all around the track and field communicating this message.
