The Greatest Show (Musical) on Earth?

Grade: A

The Greatest Showman starring Hugh Jackman, Zac Efron, and Zendaya entails P.T. Barnum’s creation of the Barnum and Bailey Circus in a spectacular and thrilling musical drama.

Though the integrity of P.T. Barnum’s actual character in history is a topic of controversy, the film instead focuses on the spirit of individuality and diversity while leaving the more darker elements of his character out.

The film begins with the title song “The Greatest Show” in a percussion deafening entrance. With Oscar winning musical composers Benj Pasek and Justin Paul behind the film’s score, each of the 11 songs throughout the story will have you tapping along with cold goosebumps. Hugh Jackman’s (surprisingly) impressive singing abilities and Zac Efron’s supporting actor lead thoroughly seal the deal.

Though as a consequence of the film being geared towards a family friendly audience, the plotline is a little shallow as well as predictable. Nonetheless, the choreography, cinematography and incredibly well picked cast make for an enticing depiction of the American ‘rags to riches’ dream through the Barnum and Bailey Circus.
