One of the most interesting students in the IHS community may have fallen under your radar. If you have heard his name (or more likely his alias) then you probably are left with a lot of questions and not enough answers. I am writing this article to get those answers and delve into the personality of one of Irvington’s most enigmatic figures: Christian (last name), better known as Dr.KingBird.
Christian’s pseudonym has become so pervasive that it is the only name that most know him by. It makes sense too- Christian’s Facebook and Youtube names are both “Dr.KingBird”, and he actually prefers to be addressed as KingBird outside of social media as well. Why is this? “It’s my name on social media,” he told me, “I know that seems a little underwhelming, but that’s honestly mostly why.”
I got the chance to talk with Christian over Facebook messenger. This felt like an apt place to conduct this interview because so many people know his online persona exclusively. Here’s how it went:
Q: What motivated you to get started on your Youtube channel?
A: I had started my first one when I was like 11 [or] 12 then months later I took it down months later because I realized how dumb I was at the time and made a new one, but did not post anything. I made a few so called “update” videos when I was in 8th grade, but that went nowhere and I did nothing else with it that year. Finally around, I’ll say May I had plans to finally come back to the big screen in summer of 2016.
Q: What are the origins of your screen name?
A: I was in a Doctor’s office, there was a Burger King commercial on and I saw an eagle on a magazine and that’s how it was made.
Q: What are your plans for the future? What career would you like to have?
A: As for the future I’d like to go far with my YouTube. Hobbies I have are, making videos,Legos,track to name a few.
Q: If you could be any fictional character, who would you be?
A: For that I would have to choose quite possibly my favorite fictional character in all media, Obi Wan Kenobi. I would choose him because he’s a very interesting,complex,and amazing character.
Q: Could you tell me a funny story about yourself?
A: Okay so about a year and a half ago, Spring break of 2015, I was with my friend coming back from Six Flags and we stopped at a Seven Eleven like place and his parents said for us to pick something for lunch and I choose a Doughnut and my friend couldn’t stop laughing. I didn’t get the Doughnut though.
Q: What is your biggest fear?
A: This may sound a bit surprising, but I think my fear is boredom.
Q: Why?
A: I prefer not to think about it, but I’ll tell you. So around last year from September through about November, my life was HORRIBLE. I was bored all day, and could only get into something for about like 5 minutes. I always wanted the day to be over before it began and would go to sleep to get of it and would wake up early to. Around December things got much better, but I wasn’t fully recovered, I’d be in fear a lot that it would happen again. I’d been gaining more interests in things and by the summer I never worried about again and haven’t since.
